The 2017 Neal Taylor Nature Center Fish Derby is over and was a huge success with record numbers of anglers attending. The Cachuma Lake Parks and Recreations department did a great job of restocking the lake with trophy winning fish. A second last minute re-stocking on the Tuesday prior to the event was added as the lakes water level had increased to 52%, a long time high.
The Sun came up early and spread it's wings across the lake and provided a warm Spring day for this years contest. It not to hot for a Spring weekend on or around the lake enjoying what mother nature had to serve up for us. Fun and games on the water provided by mother nature was had by all. A good time was had by everyone whether they be participant or watcher on this 2 day event.
Participants started arriving early on the Thursday before the event to get prime camping spots as well as to test the waters for the best "fishing holes". They were catching, trout, croppies, bass and a host of other well stocked lake fish.
Late anglers started to line of for last minute registration before the center opened at 5:45am on Saturday. Anglers were still arriving and registering at 11am Saturday before the 12noon close of day time cut-off time.
Sunday morning bought on a flood of early eager anglers of all ages eager to get fishing. By noon everyone had a well full of contest winning fish.
There was awards giving for all sizes, weights, type, and angler age grouping. Please see the Prize winners page for all the anglers and their categories for the winners.
